Garden beehive outer covers (sometimes called a gabled cover, pigeon roof or peaked roof) are not only attractive but help keep your beehive cooler in summer and dryer in winter. The pitched roof and end vent holes provide extra ventilation for heat and moisture to escape. They also provide extra protection from the elements due to the roof overhang.

 

The lids are made from pine and come either unassembled or fully assembled. 

 

Gabled roofs are generally used in conjunction with an inner cover (not included) to prevent bees drawing honeycomb in the roof cavity

Good lids, bad paint

Bought three assembled and painted. One leaked rain into the hive, and all three had paint flaking away after only a month.
After stripping them, sealing the gaps, and repainting, they work great.
Good lids, but paint them yourself.

Gabled beehive roof

Looks good when assembled. Could do with assembly instructions as it was hard to work out the order of the roof parts, especially as it looked like there were no thought screws provided.

Nice but arrived cracked and missing screws

The hive roof was relatively straight forward to put together, although It seems to come 4 screws short which I had to supply myself. One of the gables was cracked.

Gabled roof are good but did not come with inner timber cover as others have when i have purchased then from a different company, was a little disappointed
