Frames are what the bees build comb on and what you pull out to inspect or extract. We stock Langstroth frames in all three depths, in pine and in one piece plastic, assembled and ready to hang or unassembled in flat cases, and in bulk quantities for anyone running more than a few hives. Frames are sold in packs, with a minimum of 20, so there is no single frame option.
Deep, medium or shallow?
Deep frames measure 9 1/8 inches tall and are the standard for brood. Medium frames are 6 1/4 inches and are used for honey supers, and increasingly for brood too by beekeepers who want every box in the yard interchangeable and every full box liftable. Shallow frames at 5 3/8 inches are the lightest when full, which is the whole point of them. Frames are not interchangeable between depths, so buy to the boxes you already run. Browse by deep, medium or shallow.
Assembled or unassembled?
Unassembled frames cost less and ship flat, and a frame goes together in about a minute with glue and four nails. Across a pack of twenty the saving is real, and so is the evening it takes. Assembled frames arrive ready to drop in.
Wood or plastic?
Wooden frames take foundation of your choice, wax or plastic, and can be rewired and reused for years. One piece plastic frames come with the foundation molded in, will not break in an extractor and clean up easily, though bees are sometimes slower to draw them out. Many beekeepers run wood in the brood nest and plastic in the supers.
